Salt Lake Comedy Festival Brings More Laughter to Utah Than Ever
PC Laptops Improv Survivor, Wiseguys Rocky Mountain Laugh Off, Comedy Boot Camp and More

The Salt Lake Comedy Festival will be happening June 10-11, 2011 at the Grand Theatre located at 1575 S. State Street. This event includes a Comedy Boot Camp and two competitions for the participants. The first of these competitions is the PC Laptops Improv Survivor, an elimination style battle of 75 improvisers hoping to win through the audience’s laughter. The other competition is the Wiseguys Rocky Mountain Laugh Off, a multiple night event where 20 comedians from around the U.S. have the stage for five minutes to show off how quick they can think on their feet.

Started by X96′s Richie T. Steadman and producer of the Utah Battle of the Improvs’ Amy Allred, this event is the first of its kind in Utah, providing a way for aspiring or professional comedians to perfect their craft. It’s sponsored by X96, ABARTS Productions, City Weekly, Slug Magazine, and made possible by the Grand Theatre.

Classes provided are Improv 101, Comedy Marketing, Comedy Writing, Stand-up Comedy, and Long Form Improv. They are going to be taught by top comedians and writers Bob Bedore, a local professional improviser, Jenna Kim Jones, a writer from the Daily Show, Marcus, the runner-up on Last Comic Standing in 2008, Matt Bennett, a key playwright of Plan-B Theatre, Keith Stubbs, the originator of Wiseguys Comedy Club, and Jesse Parent, a cast member of Laughing Stock at the Off Broadway Theatre for the last six years.

Passes for the Comedy Boot Camp start at $75, which also includes entrance to the competitions. For those who don’t want to participate, but would like to watch the performances, tickets are $10 each or $30 for a package of tickets for all four of the shows. Early bird prices will be available until May 13.

Discounts are also given to students with valid student ID. Two full scholarships to participate in the Boot Camp and battles will be given out, applications for which will be taken until May 22.

This new branch of bringing comedy to Utah will happen on June 10-11 at the Grand Theatre. More information about the classes, instructors, and competitions is provided on the festival’s website saltlakecomedyfestival.com.
